About Emily

Hi! I’m Emily Stieber, an artist who adores adventures, but always likes coming home… eventually. After growing up in the beautiful state of Wisconsin, I moved to New Orleans in 2010 “for a year” and its been my home ever since! Other than creating, I love nature, dancing, reading, a good music festival and making my yard into an urban jungle.

I’m trying to write something deep about why I like art and what I create. But the truth is, I just love making things. My Christmas list as a kid always had at least 3 different crafting kits on there. I originally majored in Art Education in college, but, in true Emily fashion, got too impatient to do the required fifth year and dropped the “Ed” part to just be an Art Major. I was ready go explore the world, and promptly moved to Ireland for five months after graduation.

My interest in homes, houses and architecture started with my time rebuilding homes in New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. I fell in love, not only with the architecture of New Orleans, but with the people who call it home and love it fiercely. I’ve spent time gutting mold filled homes, painting two stories up on ladders, insulating attics in the summer, and sanding more drywall than is good for anyone’s lungs. Having been able to help people to return to home after so much struggle was truly an honor.

For many years, I was part of JEM Bead Art with my dear friend (really more of a sister), Jenn. We made mosaics out of Mardi Gras beads and recycled materials – while I felt called to return to my original love of painting, she’s still at it making cool stuff. We also started and ran a local art market for a while.

I’m happy to be able to share my art with you and love a custom project to make a client smile. Thanks for checking out my work and feel free to reach out with any questions.
